Fileplanet (IGN) closes after 13 years - One of the first file hosting websites of it's time, alongside with FileLeech and (now) Game Front, FilePlanet was excitedly launched on May 6th, 1999 by the well-known Gamespy, to serve the popular Quake 2 community at the time. IGN then purchased Gamespy in 2004 and redesigned the website.And finally, near the end of April here in 2012, a banner has/was added atop the FilePlanet homepage hinting the shutdown of the website, stating: "Note: FilePlanet is no longer being updated and is in the process of being archived."
Now 2 months later, iIt iscertainty now, all workers are discontinued and file planet closes his gates definitely and archive his contents. How long the user downloads remained active is uncertain.

Fileplanet (IGN) schliesst seine Pforten nach 13 Jahren - Als einer der ersten Datei-Hosting-Webseiten seiner Zeit, neben FileLeech (jetzt Game Front), wurde FilePlanet am 6. Mai 1999 erschaffen von dem bekannten Gamespy, das die beliebte Quake 2-Community zu dem Zeitpunkt unterstützte. IGN kaufte Gamespy 2004 und gestaltete die Webseite um.Ende April 2012 kam dann die Wende mit einem Banner der auf der Fileplanet-Seite hinzugefügt wurde, mit der Andeutung der Schliessung der Webseite.
Jetzt 2 Monate später ist es Gewissheit, alle Arbeitskräfte werden entlassen und Fileplanet schliesst seine Pforten endgültig und archiviert seine Inhalte. Wie lange die User-Downloads aktiv blieben, ist ungewiss.
